FIDGETY HORSEY SEALS... (My new poem about the seals at Horsey Gap, Norfolk...)

 Fidgety Horsey Seals…

Only a few were observed in the sea, their heads slick and wet,

For numerous heavy bodies lay in groups across Horsey’s sand-strewn shore,

Some lying prone, resting, whilst others wafted clawed flippers to scratch

Itchy skin, or merely flapped them carelessly, as bodies lolled from side to side.

Occasionally emitted tuneless barks or deep growls were met

By unrest, as heads bucked, tails curled and often prompted the retort of a roar

And a strong, unpleasant, pungent odour was continually apt to catch

Upon the east coast’s chilling March breeze and its proliferation intensified.

The squirming, the shuffling, the fidgeting, the turning,

The sad-eyed faces were staring and eerily discerning;

The butting, the honking, the grunting, the twisting,

The basking seals were appealing, yet strangely disconcerting…
