TRING ATHLETIC v BERKHAMSTED FC, FA CUP TIE PREVIEW...

The Emirates FA Cup…

Tring Athletic v Berkhamsted FC:

A Preview…

This local derby tie brings together two historic adversaries but this time there is the added spice that Berko were promoted from the South Midlands League at the finish of last season and begin life in the Southern League Division 1 East this term. Tring have also captured Berko’s overall leading goalscorer from last term, Ashton Campbell, who was on target along with Kieran Turner in the 2-0 league victory v Baldock Town last Saturday. Campbell also scored late in the 1-1 draw v Leverstock Green on Tuesday. Alex Campana has also made the move to Cow Lane from Berko and so there will likely be a little extra bite to this FA Cup encounter.
ALEX CAMPANA...

Tring’s 17th position last season was disappointing, gaining only 42 points, winning 11 matches from 40 and managing a goal difference of -12. Jack Read netted 21 times for the team, Chris Blunden netted 13 and in the appearances chart, Chris Vardy totalled 49 and Sam Joliffe 48.
JACK READ...

Berko were runners-up to Welwyn Garden City in Tring’s division, amassing 88 points (12 points adrift of Welwyn), winning 26 of their 40 matches with a goal difference of +59. Campbell netted 24 times overall, closely followed by Adam Mead with 23. Carl Tasker made 52 appearances and Tring’s other new signing Campana made 51.

ADAM MEAD...

So far this term, Tring have beaten Berkhamsted Raiders 2-1 in pre-season, there was a 2-0 victory over Sarratt, a 2-2 draw v Aylesbury United, a 0-1 success v Aylesbury FC and a 1-4 defeat by AFC Dunstable, which wrapped up the friendlies.
CHRIS VARDY...

Then the team beat Hatfield Town 3-0 in the Herts Charity Shield, courtesy of two Kieran Turner goals and a Billie Basari strike, followed by the two league matches mentioned above. In the Leverstock game Campbell missed a penalty as well as scoring late on but then in added time Tring conceded a needless penalty and gifted their guests a point.
ASH CAMPBELL...

No league games as yet for Berko of course but their pre-season has been interesting, beating Hemel Hempstead 5-1 and QPR’s Under 23 outfit 4-2, before a 2-2 draw v Chesham United was followed by 1-0 defeats to both Bovington and also Hayes and Yeading. Last week’s 2-1 loss at Kings Langley saw Ibe Lukually score the Comrades’ consolation goal but a 0-4 victory at Penn and Tylers Green on Tuesday has set up the FA Cup contest deliciously. Goals by Marcus Campbell, Milano Rebeiro Sanchez, Courtney Massey and Will Summerfield did the damage to Penn and Tylers.

Tring manager Ian Richardson was also relishing this week’s contest when he emailed the following comment:
IAN RICHARDSON...

“Really looking forward meeting local rivals Berkhamsted FC in what should be cracker. A big crowd will expected.

Having signed a couple of ex-Berko players during the summer, I’m sure they can’t wait for the game either…”
