SOAR MILL COVE, SALCOMBE, DEVON: THE DOUBLE OF BARNEY RUBBLE...

Rubble Double At Soar Mill Cove…

Almost greyscale,
As lowering, chilling sun 
Whitened foam on incongruous blue tide
Forced between outcrops:
Black piles of rock
Silhouetted against October’s insipid sky,
Diverting breaking rushes aside…

Yet there was a caricature,
The universal cartoon,
Chin lifted, nose prominent,
To form an impossible lampoon:

The sculpture in stone was the natural double
Of Fred Flintstone’s neighbour, Barney Rubble…
