THE BUILDBASE FA VASE, ROUND 2:
LISKEARD ATHLETIC FC v KEYNSHAM TOWN…
My first visit to Liskeard AFC coincides not only with an FA Vase tie but also a few days of holiday in Mawgan Porth…
LUX PARK... |
The match really ought to be tense and exciting for although visitors Keynsham are a Step 5 team and are lying 6th in the Western League, Liskeard, at Step 6, are riding high in 2nd place in the South West Peninsula League. All to play for then…
Liskeard have won 11 and drawn 2 of their 13 games so far in the league scoring 47 goals and conceding 19, resulting in a goal difference of an impressive +28.
THE BLUES... |
Toolstation Western League Keynsham have amassed 8 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats from their 18 league games. Their goal difference is currently +11.
THE Ks... |
Liskeard AFC’s season so far:
The season began with a 2-1 home success v Newquay AFC courtesy of goals by Nick Aplin and Sam Carter which was followed by another 2-1 win at Lux Park, this time v Launceston AFC, the goals being scored by Max Gilbert and James Lorenz.
JAMES LORENZ... |
At Callington Town, Aplin, Carter and Gilbert netted in a 2-3 victory, although the hosts had Lance Bailey dismissed. A 3-3 draw on the road at Camelford AFC saw Aplin score again, added to by strikes from Jack Podmore and James Rowe.
A comfortable 1-7 win at Sticker came next where Lorenz nabbed a hat-trick, whilst Gilbert, Aplin, Carter and Ben Adams were on the scoresheet too.
NICK APLIN... |
Back at Lux Park Lorenz and Carter scored the vital goals to see off Wadebridge Town 2-1 before a 3-2 home win was achieved v Wendron United, a game in which Carter, Lorenz and Dylan Peel netted. Wendron voted Jarrad Woods as Liskeard’s MVP.
JARRAD WOODS... |
Bodmin Town were beaten 3-4 at their Priory Park ground, with Lorenz grabbing a brace and Gilbert and Rowe scoring the other two. In the CSC, Torpoint Athletic were beaten 4-2 at Lux Park before St Dennis visited Liskeard and were thumped 5-0, the goals coming from Aplin, Gilbert, Lorenz and a Harvey Mullis brace.
MAX GILBERT... |
Callington Town earned a 3-3 draw at Liskeard, a game in which Woods, Carter and Lorenz were the home scorers then in the WCP, Wadebridge Town were beaten 4-2 at home. Will Tucker, Lorenz and two by Woods saw the tie won while Mullis was voted MVP.
HARVEY MULLIS... |
And then the FA Vase cropped up, the visitors to Lux Park being Laverstock and Ford, who were despatched 4-2, with two goals by Rowe, who was also sent off, plus strikes from Peel and Lorenz. Mullis was again voted MVP.
A 1-2 victory at Launceston AFC followed where Aplin and Gilbert were on target then St Austell were hammered 7-1 at home, the goals being claimed by Macauley Thorp, Lorenz and FIVE by Ben Collins…
Next up, Lee Robinson scored twice in a 3-2 CSC defeat at Helston Athletic, where Harvey Mullis was elected MVP by the hosts and Jack Podmore was binned as a sinner.
Last Saturday, Liskeard visited Newquay and came away with a 0-4 victory. Three new signings had been added to the squad and one of them, Ben Holter grabbed a hat-trick in the match, with the other goal coming from Gilbert. Harvey Mullis won yet another MVP award...
And so to Keynsham…
A 3-0 win v Ashton & Backwell Utd began the campaign with the prolific Will Hailston, Jordan Metters and Harley Purnell scoring. A 0-3 win at Brislington followed where a brace by Hailston was added to by a goal from Jamie Noble.
WILL HAILSTON... |
Tring Athletic beat Keynsham 3-0 in the FA Cup where Michael Grist received a dismissal but the team returned to better form with a 1-2 victory at Cadbury Heath, courtesy of a brace from Hailston.
Helston Athletic won 2-3 on the road at Crown Field although Hailston and Sam Jones scored, before a 2-2 draw at Buckland Athletic gained a point, where again Hailston scored as did Matt Brown.
SAM JONES... |
Next Shepton Mallet visited Crown Field and grabbed a 2-2 draw, with Brown and Jack Dancy scoring for the hosts although Purnell was sent off. A third draw in a row was then achieved, this time 0-0 at Shepton Mallet whose player Joe Morgan was dismissed.
Bridport were well beaten 6-2 at Keynsham, the goals coming from Luke Banfield (2), Dancey (2), Scott Gregory and Hailston. However, a 1-1 draw at Street saw Jamie Price sent off and Hailston get the important goal.
Clevedon Town travelled to Keynsham and won convincingly, 0-4 although substitute Stefan Lee was sin-binned close to the end of the match. A crazy 5-5 draw at Helston Athletic came next where Hailston, Brown, Lee and Jones scored although Adrian Harvey’s goal came in the 88th minute…
A 0-2 loss at home to Exmouth Town came next before Long Crendon were beaten 4-1 at Crown Fields in the FA Vase, a game which saw Callum Baker score twice and Brown and Hailston once each.
CALLUM BAKER... |
Replacement Lee scored a brace in a 1-4 win at Bitton alongside goals from Brown and Jordan Anstey while in the SP Cup a Brown hat-trick saw them progress 2-3 at Wincanton Town.
MATT BROWN... |
Hailston and an 86th minute goal by substitute Dan Cottle saw Keynsham come from 0-2 behind to grab a 2-2 draw at Clevedon Town although George Rooke was dismissed in that match.
A 3-1 loss at Ilfracombe Town, where Metters scored the Keynsham consolation, was followed by a 2-3 victory at Newquay in the FA Vase, courtesy of two goals by Metters and one from Cottle.
JORDAN METTERS... |
A 4-3 win v Cadbury Heath came next where an 89th minute Anstey goal added to strikes by Cottle and Hailston (2).
Cottle was credited to have netted twice in the 2-1 home win v Buckland Athletic, who included a guy I have a lot of time for, Levi Landricombe, whilst last Saturday the Ks travelled to Bridport, where a comfortable 0-4 win was achieved. A brace by Cottle, plus strikes by Hailston and Jones did the damage.
All is set then for a cracking tie on Saturday. Full coverage of the match will be posted at themowdog.blogspot.com on Monday 22nd November, as I will be travelling home to Solihull on the Sunday!
A full match report, screenshots, images and of course video highlights with commentary will be available on the blog...
