Checking Out The Patio…
It hadn’t detected the metallic ground feeder,
Merely a few peanuts, sparsely scattered
On what used to be a green lawn.
One of two badgers, likely the leader,
Stepped onto the patio stones, unfettered
From its usual caution and displaying its scorn…
It nudged about in the unnatural light
From the utility room, foraging,
Then returned to the claw-scored lawn,
Until it found the feast provided, its countenance contrite.
The reward for my kindness was however, discouraging
For on the lawn it scoured artwork, entitled ‘Scorn’…

Well, one of two badgers made it onto the patio last night and found a peanut or two.
My thanks was another artistic raking of the lawn during its later digs, likely for chafer beetle grubs…
