Match Preview:
Kenilworth Sporting v Knowle FC
(Midland League Division 2)
GYPSY LANE... |
This clash brings together two teams from the top three in the league standings, separated by just one goal in the goal-difference category. One point behind leaders Cadbury Athletic, Sporting and the Robins have both won 4 times and drawn 3 matches, whilst Kenilworth's goal-difference is +10 and Knowle's is +9.
Therefore everything points to a close encounter of the Midland league kind...
Champions Cadbury, despite currently being top of the league, were beaten once early in the campaign, 3-0 at Kenilworth, a match I witnessed. Sporting were worthy winners against a lack-lustre Cadbury team on the day, which dropped points last week at the Chocolate Factory v Hampton.
I covered Knowle's opening fixture at Redditch Borough, which was a frustrating one for the visitors for a variety of reasons but at least they secured an added-time draw when defender Lewis Clarke rose to head in one of his two goals this term.
Kenilworth so far this season...
The team led 2-0 v Inkberrow at home in their first contest but were held to a 2-2 draw by the finish. Sam Delaney and Tyrone Wilson netted the goals and Wilson was also voted as the team's MVP.
Next came the 3-0 win v Cadbury, during which MVP Jason Evans and the Wilsons, Harry and Tyrone, netted the all important goals.
JASON EVANS, AFTER SCORING v CADBURY... |
On the road, Sporting then won 1-4 at Barnt Green Spartak, courtesy of a brace by Tyrone Wilson and two added-time goals by replacement David Obeng. The mercurial Jean Dakouri was acclaimed the MVP...
A forgettable 1-0 win at Gypsy Lane v Lane Head came via Chris Green's goal, whilst Tyrone Wilson was chosen as MVP.
TYRONE WILSON: EFFECTIVE AGAINST CADBURY... |
Another home match, this time against Earlswood Town resulted in a 1-1 draw, after which Dakouri won the MVP honour and Chris Wright bagged the Kenilworth goal.
A decent 2-2 draw at Alcester Town saw Evans and Kyle Jaynes find the net, whilst yet again Dakouri was given the MVP accolade.
JEAN 'THE TANK' DAKOURI, 3 MVP AWARDS THIS TERM... |
Last time out, game seven, saw the team win comfortably at Bolehall Swifts in Tamworth, where the goalscorers were MVP Chris Jones with a pair and substitute Hamza Siddique, who netted in added-time. Siddique has also scored for Knowle this term...
Knowle's form thus far...
The 1-1 draw at Redditch Borough was a match the Robins really ought to have won but after going behind after the interval, Boro' wasted a lot of time, which caused some real frustration for the Knowle players and staff alike. However, tall defender Lewis Clarke popped up with a very late looping header to snatch a point for the Robins. Reece Hewitt was voted the team's MVP.
HEWITT SHOOTS AGAINST REDDITCH BOROUGH... |
A 2-0 home win v Bolehall Swifts followed, where Siddique and Owen Ward scored for Knowle and Ben Maxwell was chosen as MVP.
'KEEPER MAXWELL GRABS BALL & HEAD v REDDITCH BORO'... |
Earlswood drew at Knowle, as they did at Kenilworth, interestingly, although this time the game ended 2-2. Hewitt and replacement Jacob Walton scored the Robins' goals and midfielder Ward was voted MVP.
A 1-1 draw at Inkberrow was next, where Hewitt scored and Lewis Rainey was given the MVP honour.
Barnt Green Spartak were defeated 0-4 on their own patch by the Robins, where MVP Dylon Bennett, Charlie Morris, Owen Ward and Lewis Clarke grabbed the goals.
LEWIS CLARKE TOUCHES HIS HEAD, WHICH HAS JUST EARNED A POINT AT REDDITCH BORO'... |
A 2-1 victory v Fairfield Villa followed, where Bennett and substitute Jack Mullen nabbed the goals. The MVP was Hewitt and Villa's Kieran Fitzgerald was dismissed.
Last time out, Alcester Town were defeated 2-0 in Knowle, one goal being scored by MVP Rainey, the other being an own-goal by Town's Rob Ager.
So, all is set for a competitive and hopefully creative football game at Gypsy Lane.
