MILITARY PRECISION... (My poem about a short visit to Windsor Castle and Sonning in 2006...)

 Military Precision…

Middle-aged volunteers raised their coloured

umbrellas

High, as banners for the guided

Through Windsor’s ancient, bustling streets.

Information was thus provided.

Colourful hired barges hoisted patriotic flags

High, as banners for the navigation

Through Sonning’s busy, meandering Thames.

A means of relaxation.

Listening, chattering, staring visitors lifted

audio-aids

High, as banners for the learning

Through the state apartments, opulent and affluent.

An embarrassment for the discerning.

Marching, changing Guards held shouldered rifles

High, as banners for the security trade

Through the Castle’s crowded, thronging Wards.

A military presence on parade…

Pete Ray...

Visit to Windsor Castle, 2006.

Odd place, really.

Lots of walls.

Security high.

Guides, soldiers, sightseers with inane-making

audio-aids and later, the barges in Sonning.

And all of it seemed to move with such military

precision.
