SAUVE MEMORIAL... (My poem about Sauve, Gard, France...)

Sauve Memorial…

Behind the war memorial

An open window revealed

Brocante, its vintage items jumbled,

At the perimeter of Sauve’s small square…

The dedication’s pinnacle,

A fighting cock, revealed

Wings in affray, its feathers ruffled,

Dissident beak cruel and sharp eyes a-glare…

The stark military figure

Stood at ease, revealed

A peaceful pride, its expression humble,

Rifle rested and sad eyes gentle in wistful stare…

Pete Ray…

Sauve, Gard, France, September 2018.

The small brocante room was cluttered but the elderly lady inside sold us a cheese pot and two small snail pots…

The war memorial was a fine example from France…
