TREVOR EDWARDS, WHO ANCHORED THE MONTPELLIER MIDFIELD AGAINST TIVIDALE... |
"We've had a couple of tough friendlies now and in each game we have been getting better and better, playing the way that we are aiming to play once the season starts.
The first-half against Tividale was no different. We pressed high and started at a decent tempo and tried to get on the ball and play in the final third. We created a couple of half chances within the first 20 minutes which is always encouraging against a side that will be playing 3 leagues above us.
We looked solid, more than matched them in the first-half and got the goal that I feel we more than deserved .
The second half was a completely different story with Tividale on top from the kick-off, playing with more purpose and zipping the ball around more effectively. We conceded 3 goals in the second-half which none of us will be happy about but we will learn from our mistakes and make sure we do all we can as a team to avoid it happening again.
As a club we are on an exciting journey and we have high expectations about the season ahead, so we won't be too disheartened about this result. We will take the positives out of this game, it was another chance to get to know each other better and more minutes in the legs heading towards August 13th where Montpellier fc begin their journey to climb the leagues.
With the players we are attracting, I think it is more than possible that we will achieve our goals.
So, another tough friendly for the lads to get some much needed minutes under their belts against a Tividale side that I'm guessing will be aiming to win the Midland Football League's Premier Division..."
