AFC BINLEY MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES COMMENTS ON HIS TEAM'S 1-3 DEFEAT BY COVENTRY PLUMBING...

EDWIN: not overly pleased...

"Although very early in the season, this was a very good indication for me of where my side is.

Both sides have made aN impressive start to the season and I knew we would be tested tonight.

The game itself was reduced to 35 minutes each way due to the poor conditions and poor light when we kicked off.

The 1st half was a tough, cagey affair but with neither goalkeeper forced to make a real save, both sides cancelled each other out.

The 2nd half sprung into life after Coventry Plumbing opened the scoring direct from a corner: 0-1.

We responded almost straight away with a goal from Blake Kassar: 1-1.

Coventry Plumbing then bounced back with 2 quick goals which we couldn't respond to.

Coventry Plumbing had several other opportunities on the break to score but failed to do so.

Full-time: 1-3.

In summing up this game:

Although nothing to choose between the 2 sides in the 1st half, the 2nd half definitely belonged to Coventry Plumbing.

We fell a little bit short of what was needed tonight but I am sure the lads will bounce back from this setback and come back stronger.

This defeat does not take away the fact that we have made a good start to the season; it just shows me that we are still a little bit behind at least one team in this division.

Next up for us is Stockton away and they have recorded 4 wins out of 4, so it will be another massive test for us."

Edwin Greaves, Manager,

AFC Binley...

To deny both teams 20 minutes of playing time is a ludicrous situation...
Each team might have scored goals in that time and all because one of the teams was late being ready to start I believe and the referee chose to play 35 minutes during each half...

Surely the Coventry Alliance is capable of addressing this?

A number of Saturdays become free during the season I reckon, which could spare teams having to squeeze in 6pm kick-offs in early September, straight after work for many players...

Sad.
