Godmanchester Rovers v Raunds Town:

BEARSCROFT LANE...

Rovers have a record of 5 wins, 5 losses and a draw in league play with a goal difference of +9 and a points total of 16. After a shaky start, Rovers have won their last three league matches.

Overall at home Godmanchester's record is 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses, with a goals ratio of 17 to 8.

Raunds Town, the ‘Shopmates’, lead their league at present but have played more games than chasers Buckingham Town and Lutterworth Athletic. They have amassed a points total of 18 which includes 6 wins and 2 losses and they can boast a goal difference of +12.

Their overall record on the road is 3 wins and 3 losses, with a goals ratio of 8-11.

The hosts’ recent form has seen them win 4-1 at Kirkley and Pakefield (goals by Chandler, Gwynne, Dolden & Knight-Percival), then succeed 2-0 at Ely (Chandler netted a brace) and last Saturday’s match ended in a fine victory, 5-0 at home to Walsham le Willows, with goals from Chandler, Coe, Unwin (2) & Knight-Percival.

Leading goalscorers overall this season so far are Jack Chandler and Simon Unwin, who both have 6...

Raunds have recently won 2-0 at home v Wellingborough Town in the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round (goals by Clark and Porter) then in the league they were victorious 1-0 at Rushden & Higham United (goal by Clark) and last Saturday they were equally tough to beat at Huntingdon Town, leaving with another 1-0 victory, courtesy of Dave Townsend’s strike. A reverse of 2-4 in a Cup competition to Pinchbeck United on Tuesday would be unlikely to dampen the team’s ambition where the FA Vase is concerned however…

Leading goalscorers this season so far are Ty Clark with 9 and Dave Townsend with 4...

I have visited Raunds Town’s Kiln Park once, in 2009-10 for a 0-1 defeat to St Neots on a dark Tuesday evening and Raunds the town (from ‘Rands’, old English for ‘borders’) is famous for boot and shoe making, as well as announcing a temperature of 36.7 degrees on 10th August 1911, a British record which stood until 1990. Sir David Frost’s father Paradine Frost was once a Methodist minister in the town and thus David lived there for a time in his youth.

Godmanchester (from Godmundceaster, meaning a Roman fortified place belonging to the Saxon, Godmund) was originally built as a Roman town at the gravel bed ford across the River Great Ouse. The Roman town was known as Durovigutum.

This will my first visit to Bearscroft Lane and match coverage will be at

IMAGES FROM MY VISIT TO RAUNDS IN 2009-10...

It was tough to find images of the players above, so please excuse what I found!

All information came from the two leagues' websites and any errors I apologise for...
