WOLLATON FC v SOUTHWELL CITY: MATCH PREVIEW...

Wollaton FC v Southwell City
7th December 2019:

The Preview…

This will be my first visit to Wollaton but their opponents, Southwell City, who lie 2nd in the Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League will be a tough nut to crack. I saw City win the Notts Senior Cup at the end of last season by thrashing league champions Stapleford Town 6-1 at Basford’s ground.

This term Wollaton currently sit 6th in the division, with a record of 6 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats. Their goals ratio is 26-17 in amassing 20 points.

The recent form has been good however, with the last three matches all played at home. They beat Burton Joyce 2-1, then drew 1-1 with league leaders Bingham Town, who I saw lose at home to Woodthorpe Park Rangers on Saturday. (Full coverage of that game can be found on my blog themowdog.blogspot.co.uk …) The most recent game for Wollaton was a 2-0 success against Cotgrave, during which Josh Stevenson and Luke Davies scored the goals.

Stevenson leads the goalscoring chart with 9 this season, followed by Steve Ahern, who has 6.
STEVE AHERN...

Southwell’s record is an impressive 9 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat, the goals ratio is 41-12 and the points total is 30. City have a game in hand over Bingham, so they are surely indebted to Woodthorpe for that hard fought victory at Butt Field last week.

Recently, City have also played three home matches, winning all of them: 6-1 v Bilborough Town, 3-0 v Magdala Amateurs and 5-2 v Burton Joyce, during which Calum Law netted a brace, whilst Ant Brown, Ben Selby and Oli Clarke weighed in with one apiece.

Law is the leading goalscorer with 14, closely followed by Brad McDonald with 13.

Video highlights, screenshots, images and a full match report will feature on the blog and any retweets to enable the players to indulge themselves in themselves would be helpful! Thanks…

Let’s hope it’s a fine match and a good advert for the Notts Senior League…
