CLANFIELD 85 v PERSHORE TOWN: THE MOWDOG'S MATCH PREVIEW...

 CLANFIELD 85 v PERSHORE TOWN:

THE MOWDOG’S PREVIEW…

This Hellenic League match at Radcot Road features 5th placed Robins and 8th placed Pershore in the Division 1 standings, a league headed at present by FC Stratford with 18 points from 7 matches.

This will be my first visit to Clanfield in Oxfordshire, although I have made several trips to see Pershore over recent years…

Clanny, or ‘Clanfield (April 1985) Football Club’, originally formed in 1890 and playing on a field near Chestlion Farm, according to Wikipedia, currently have 12 points, the result of 4 wins from 6 games played, their goal difference being +13.

DECLAN SHEPPERD: A GOAL IN THE FINE WIN v WORCESTER RAIDERS...

They began the season with a 1-3 home defeat to Studley, their only goal coming from Jamie Wyatt, then they travelled to Malmesbury Vics and stormed to a 0-6 victory. The goals that day were scored by Eddie Stevens & Jozef Fullerton, both with two, whilst Isaac Oliver & George Seacole (a famous Crimean War surname…) scored one apiece.

EDDIE STEVENS: A BRACE AT MALMESBURY...

Another fine win on the road at Shortwood United followed, where Oliver grabbed a hat-trick, added to by strikes from Wyatt and Kyle Chester, before a 3-1 home win was secured v Newent Town, who had Cosmin Micula dismissed. Fullerton, Wyatt and Elliott Heritage netted on that occasion for the Robins.

ELLIOTT HERITAGE: A GOAL v NEWENT...

A superb 5-1 triumph v Worcester Raiders came next, with Seacole netting twice and Oliver and Declan Shepperd nabbing one each. The other strike was an own-goal and Raiders’ Brad Birch was dismissed during that match.

JAMIE WYATT: 3 GOALS SO FAR...

After the Stonehouse Town encounter had been postponed last week, Bank Holiday Monday proved a real let-down for the Robins, losing 1-2 at home to rivals Cheltenham Saracens. An own-goal was Clanny’s only consolation…

The Plums of Pershore have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their seven games so far, 11 points have been amassed and their goal difference is currently +2. Their season began with a 0-2 win on the road at Abingdon United, where Aidan Clark and Joel Owusu scored for the Persians.

JOEL OWUSU: SCORED AT ABINGDON...

A fine 2-3 victory at Studley, where a friend of mine Wil Beach was sent off for the Bees, saw Roland Krol’s brace and Martin Fowler’s strike give the visitors the three points. James Behan was voted the Plums' MVP by Studley.

ROB SIMS: MVP v FC STRATFORD...

A disappointing home loss to current leaders FC Stratford, courtesy of a Levi Steele goal came next, with ‘keeper Rob Sims voted MVP by the Royals. However, the team rallied to hammer Shortwood United 4-1, with goals by Sam Clark 2, Aidan Clark and Lucas Edmonds.

SAM CLARK: A BRACE v SHORTWOOD & ANOTHER v STONEHOUSE...

Malmesbury Vics then beat the travelling Persians 3-0, a disappointment which was followed by a pair of 2-2 draws. At Newent Town, Jake Cavens scored once, added to by an own-goal, then at their Community Stadium near the banks of the River Avon they managed a similar scoreline v the enterprising Stonehouse Town. Sam Clark was on the mark again, as well as Corey Virgo-Broom, who, along with Stonehouse’s talented midfielder Harry Burns, was sent-off.

STEVE WEBB: PERSHORE'S STALWART...

So, the game on Saturday should be a competitive one and it will be good to see long serving Plum Steve Webb playing yet again, a guy who has been such a stalwart for the Persians…
