MATCH PREVIEW:
LYE TOWN v HIGHGATE UNITED…
Ah, it’s back to one of my very favourite grounds, where I have experienced many interesting, exciting and crazy evenings… The guests are Highgate, whose skipper Trevor Edwards decided to be suspended for this match, for he is rather camera shy, as we all know…
MY MATE & CAMERA SHY 'GATE SKIPPER TREVOR EDWARDS... |
THE PLACE TO FILM FROM, WEATHER PERMITTING... |
I saw Lye win at a canter at Bewdley Town a few weeks back but as yet, I haven’t seen Gate play this term. At present, Lye are 5th in the Midland Premier League standings with 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Their goal difference is +3 and they have accumulated 10 points.
Highgate are two places lower and a point adrift of their hosts with 9, having won twice, drawn three times and lost only once. The goal difference for The Gate is currently +4…
Lye began their season with a 2-3 home loss in the FA Cup to Hanley Town, their goalscorers being Justice Campbell and Joe Colley. Next came a 3-2 defeat on the road at Stone Old Alleynians, where Aaron Lloyd scored one of the goals. The other was netted by the irrepressible Ben Billingham, who was not only voted as the team’s MVP by Stone, he was also sin-binned…
BEN BILLINGHAM: PROMINENT FOR LYE THIS TERM... |
In the match I saw, he was again voted MVP in the 0-2 success at Bewdley, where Billingham scored, as did Jaden Owusu-Nepaul. Musa Ceesay was given the MVP accolade in a 2-0 loss at Lichfield City, before the Flyers went to Claines Lane and beat Worcester City 0-3 in front of 530 spectators. Jordan Harrison was dismissed in the game, Bekir Halil was awarded the MVP honour by City and Billingham, Shaquille Whittingham and Sam Tye scored the goals. Tye’s effort came in the 96th minute.
SAM TYE: SCORED A LATE GOAL AT CLAINES LANE... |
A 2-1 home victory over Racing Club Warwick came next, courtesy of goals by Harrison and Joe Lawley, although George Taylor was red-carded.
THE FLYERS FLOCK TOGETHER AT BEWDLEY... |
The most recent encounter ended in a 2-2 draw at Tividale, where Billingham added an 80th minute goal to Whittingham’s strike, who was voted MVP by the hosts.
JADEN OWUSU-NEPAUL (11): SCORED WITH A HEADER AT BEWDLEY... |
Highgate began their campaign with a 3-1 FA Cup win v Malvern Town at their Tythe Barn Lane ground, round the corner from where I live. Although Brad Catlow was dismissed, goals by Lee Chilton, Ryan Boothe and Aon Abbas saw The Gate through.
LEE CHILTON: SCORED v MALVERN & RACING CLUB WARWICK, WHILST BEING VOTED MVP THREE TIMES SO FAR THIS SEASON... |
Chilton, along with Connor Doyle netted the goals which beat Racing Club Warwick in Shirley, with Chilton being voted MVP by the Racers. In front of 419 spectators at Worcester City, a 90th minute Aaron Brown goal earned Gate a 1-1 draw and Catlow was acclaimed their MVP.
TREV EDWARDS IN A GAME AT LYE, AGAIN CAMERA-SHY IN, ER, PINK THIS TIME... |
Lewis Archer scored in the 1-4 home FA Cup defeat by Coleshill Town, then Tividale visited Highgate and won 0-1, after which Doyle took the MVP honours.
AARON BROWN (6): SCORED A 90TH MINUTE GOAL TO EARN A POINT AT WORCESTER CITY... |
A 0-3 win at Stourport Swifts was secured with goals by Abbas and two from Boothe, who was also voted MVP. Chilton was the most valuable player in a 0-0 stalemate at Shifnal Town but the most recent Gate match, a 1-1 draw at Boldmere St Michaels must have been, er, lively, for Edwards was sent-off for a second-yellow offence and Jack Storer not only scored but was dismissed too. Chilton won another MVP nomination after that contest.
JACK STORER: SCORED AND WAS SENT-OFF AGAINST THE MIKES... |
So, a tasty game is expected between these two protagonists and full coverage will be provided from Wednesday at
There will be video highlights, hopefully filmed from The Mowdog’s Grassy Bank, plus a match report and limited images, due to the continuing difficulty of snapping pics under floodlights…
AH, ANOTHER PHOTO OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CAMERA-SHY TREV EDWARDS, THIS TIME WITH COREY CURRITHERS... |
THE GRASSY KNOLL END... THE BARN END AT LYE... THE SIGHT-SCREEN, SORRY, GRANDSTAND... I LOVE THE BANK END.
I GET TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF SOLITARY THINKING THERE...
