STOURPORT SWIFTS v BEWDLEY TOWN, THE LOCAL DERBY: THE MOWDOG'S PREVIEW...

 STOURPORT SWIFTS v BEWDLEY TOWN:

THE MOWDOG’S PREVIEW…

These two teams, located alongside the River Severn of course, take up two of the bottom four positions in the Midland League 1 divisional standings. Swifts are 16th of 19 teams, whilst the Riversiders, having been moved up to Step 5 for this current season, are languishing at the foot of the table with 5 losses from 5 games played.

A local derby then and by rights, all form should go out of the window and how both these teams need some improvement in their fortunes. Swifts have at least drawn two matches and have scored five goals but Bewdley have no points at all and have netted just one goal…

Both teams were eliminated from the FA Cup in their first competitive games of the season too, Swifts going down 0-4 on their own turf to Lichfield City, a game in which Lewis Clarke was voted their MVP by their opponents and Harrison Yates was sent-off after only 8 minutes. Not helpful… Bewdley were beaten 3-0 at Gresley Rovers, where ‘keeper Luke Sidaway apparently prevented a more scathing defeat.

Since then, Swifts managed a commendable draw, 2-2 at Walsall Wood, where Edilson Panzo-Antonio and Louis Jones scored and Jones was also voted MVP by the hosts.

A narrow loss by 2-1 at Boldmere St Michaels came next, where Drew Caravan scored the Stourport goal and Nathan Binner was voted MVP by the Mikes.

DREW CANAVAN: GOALS AT BOLDMERE & AGAINST SHIFNAL...

A 2-2 home draw v Shifnal Town was next, after being 0-2 behind after only 12 minutes. However, Angelo Franco of Town was dismissed during the second period after Ben Tilbury had pulled a goal back for Swifts and then Canavan salvaged a point in the final minute. The irrepressible Stourport midfielder Martin Slevin was voted his team’s MVP by Shifnal…

THE IRREPRESSIBLE MARTIN SLEVIN, LEFT: MVP v SHIFNAL...

A tough result was suffered though on Bank Holiday Monday against Highgate United which ended in a 0-3 loss at Walshes Meadow. Bailey Fuller was voted MVP by The Gate.

SWIFTS' GOALIE DOM RICHARDS...

Thus 2 points so far, a goal difference of -4 and much to do for the Swifts…

Bewdley lost 3-0 at Uttoxeter Town, where ‘keeper Joe Sidaway was voted MVP, then lost 0-2 at home to Lye Town’s Flyers, courtesy of goals by Ben Billingham and Jaden Owusu-Nepaul, a match I saw. Sidaway, unsurprisingly, was voted MVP by the visiting contingent.

A SIDAWAY CATCH v MALVERN IN PRE-SEASON...

Stone Old Alleynians won 1-2 at Ribbesford Meadows last Saturday but at least Ben Worthington broke the Riversiders’ goal-duck and Darren Steadman won the MVP award from the visitors.

STEVE CLARKE (2): A BUSY FULL-BACK...

Sadly, the Bank Holiday Monday outing ended in a 4-0 reverse at Tividale, where Callum Allchurch was voted MVP and even worse, a 0-5 home defeat by AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday has left the Riversiders in real trouble. Jordan Graham was voted Town's MVP by Wulfs...

CALLUM ALLCURCH (11): MVP AT TIVIDALE...

Thus Bewdley have a goal difference of -15 and of course are desperate for even one point…

JOSH CARPENTER SCORES v MALVERN IN PRE-SEASON...

Video highlights with commentary, a full match report and limited images (due to the difficulties of getting clear pictures under floodlights) will appear at themowdog.blogspot.com from Wednesday morning…
