AS ONE, IN DISCARDED BEDDING... (BADGERS IN WARWICKSHIRE...)

 As One, In Discarded Bedding…

A water container was rubbed clean and refilled,

Shards of glass lurking like traps were removed,

Proffered food was distributed

Near grassy bedding, used and discarded

Upon a small mound adjacent to a sett.

A robin flitted, as daylight lingered

And the wait began and the evening chilled…

Three investigative badgers soon appeared,

Senses keen, careful, yet quite unmoved.

Offered morsels were noisily ingested,

Though movements remained guarded.

Then the trio of hungry members of a cete

Suddenly froze, as dusk descended

And as one, lifted heads my way, afeared…

Early evening.

Cleaned a water bowl out, refilled it, scattered food about near the badgers’ discarded bedding and broken glass was identified and removed.

Surprisingly, three badgers appeared almost immediately to feed, although in a guarded fashion, as a robin shifted quickly about.

At one point, something caused all three, as one, to lift their heads, as if to either warn, or acknowledge human presence…
