'SQUALLING...': WORDS ABOUT A PAINTING OF BIRSAY, ORKNEY, BY INGRID GRIEVE...

 Squalling…

(from a painting by Ingrid Grieve: ‘Leaskna Geo Greens, Buckquoy, Birsay, Orkney’…)

Squall’s wings, blackening

To instil fear, rise

And seemingly suck at the queasy surf,

For sinews of ocean cling

To its grim belly as it continues to soar

And foully, irreverently roar,

Its increasing menace barely slackening…

Squall’s soul mesmerising

With a citadel mirage,

Incongruous but hovering above the uneasy surf,

As spewed rain showers are flung

Like waste from the vast belly, flawed

And fall indiscriminately, abhorred

By a coastline berating and chastising…

Just thought the storm looked like a huge winged squall and the outline of a citadel seemed to show within the cloud-form.

The coastline looked restless, cussing the approach of inclement weather.

I’m told by the artist that Leaskna Geo is a small inlet on the shore at the Point of Buckquoy in Birsay, Orkney…

Looks amazing…
