BAULKED BY A PERSISTENT ROBIN...

 Baulked By A Persistent Robin…



A descending aircraft droned and sliced

Through the stillness

And enfolding dampness of dusk,

Yet it was the presence of a robin which

Startled and turned

A tremulous badger

Into hurrying and stumbling

Back down inside its sett…


A passing vehicle groaned and spliced

The evening sullenness

And scolding dankness of dusk,

Yet it was that territorial robin which

Skittered and spurned

The nervous badger

Into scrambling and fumbling

Deep down to rejoin its cete…

Two badgers appeared from different holes but the other individual, some metres away, seemed more wary of the distant clanking of a farm vehicle than the presence of the busy, fussy robin…
