Midland Premier League Highgate were often quicker and slicker than their Division two hosts but despite a huge chunk of possession, United managed only two goals, the second coming late on.
The only visiting players I knew the identities of for certain were Josh O’Grady in midfield and Ben Vallance in defence, both replacements but they provided a measure of control and steadiness to supplement their colleagues.
The Gate moved the ball about well enough and Rangers were often forced to defend desperately although both home ‘keepers, Hartopp and then Hawthorne only really made perhaps five saves between them. The home defenders were worked hard and much information will have been gained by manager Kev Kingham about individuals.
However, beyond the interval a post was struck by visiting forward 14, who missed two other decent opportunities too. The goals though were simply taken, the first by a rush from midfield onto a neat lay-off by the central striker and a low finish past Hartopp and the second was simply a poke into the net following a smart dummy by 14 from a low right-flank centre.
Rangers had chances too, Wurie and Farrell shooting too high before the break and skipper Powell missing the target vertically three times after the recess. Powell though made some crucial interceptions for his team… A decent effort from a long way downtown by Cutts dropped just over the crossbar and Regan had a low shot saved.

It was a nightmare but hopefully, enough of the footage is watchable…
Subsequently though, United played some decent stuff, Rangers tried hard but unsurprisingly they lacked that bit of slickness and speed employed by their guests…
