KNOWLE FC 1-0 ROMULUS: THE WORDS & THE IMAGES...

Gloomy Evening At The Nest Of Robins…

Knowle FC 1-0 Romulus

The Mowdog’s thoughts…

The wretched rain, a gloomy evening, a slick surface and an exercise in physical effort produced a practice match with few goal chances created. Neither goalkeeper was particularly tested, a few tasty tackles looked worse than they were on the slippery grass, a couple of cautions were dished out and home skipper George Seeley was asked to leave the contest and be replaced, rather than being dismissed from it.

Certainly the lively Romulus left-flanker was subject to some ‘robust’ tackles by the hosts…

The referee began the game ten minutes early and I assume curtailed each half, in case the dimness increased too early, as the rain became unrelenting.

If your footy fetish is ‘dispossession’, this was a game for you… Ball retention was tough for both teams but in truth, Knowle just about deserved to edge the contest.

The only goal was scored by the most effective forward on view, Jay Rendell, who picked up a loss of possession by the Roms from way downtown and surged beyond half-way, before capitalising upon an unfortunate slip by the visiting skipper, an uncompromising defender, wearing 17. Rendell veered right and as he was challenged near the right byeline, his low shot rolled just out of reach of the Roms’ gloveman and just inside the left upright…

1-0: RENDELL THE SCORER...

However, the Romulus skipper did have his team’s best chance to score during the evening but his effort was blocked by a combination of Robins’ Lewis Clarke and his ‘keeper, who had just knocked away a right-flank centre.

Another Roms shot flew wastefully high but despite some determined play by Robins’ Rendell, Nathan Corry and Connor Deards, subsequently the visiting goalminder wasn’t really threatened much either.

The final words…

Apologies for the lack of identification in my commentary, especially of the Romulus players but I guess in pre-season it matters little. The two sets of players and replacements at least got in some attritional minutes.

There was a scrap too.

See? Winning does matter to the players, even in pre-season…

GETTING DARK...

GETTING BOOKED...

GETTING HURT...

GETTING WARNED...

GETTING EXILED...

GETTING GLOOMIER...
