DUDLEY TOWN 2-0 LYE TOWN: THE WORDS ABOUT THE GAME & THE IMAGES...

Competitive Workout Won By Two Dudley Breakouts…

Dudley Town 2-0 Lye Town

The Mowdog’s thoughts…

Two breakout goals by the Robins, one immediately after the interval just as the Flyers had made several changes, settled the score in this pre-season workout. Video clips of the two goals with muted commentary can be found on my blog… HERE...

1-0...

2-0...

Noose Lane was a windy, showery venue for the two teams, which both showed smart touches and made constructive passes on occasions, although the hosts snaffled the goals, whilst the guests missed their opportunities, despite periods of decent possession.

Certainly Dudley’s front line was in decent form with Robin 11 looking craftily speedy along the left flank, Robin 9 pulling the Lye defenders about with some smart movement and Robin 10 causing awkward defensive moments for the visitors. Robin 11 was instrumental in creating the two goals, scored by Robin 9 and Robin 18, a second period substitute…

Three late breakouts by the Robins should have resulted in further goals for Dudley but Robin 2 couldn’t assist Robin 18 on one occasion, then his outside of right boot effort went wide, before Robin 18 got away in the final moments and despite the attentions of Lye’s Ryan Bridgwater, he got in a low shot which was saved by replacement Lye goalie Sheridan Martinez…

Lye’s first ‘keeper made saves in the opening period too, from Robin 11 and Robin 8 but the visitors, via some slick play on the artificial surface, went close several times themselves.

Ben Billingham’s free-kick in the opening couple of minutes from downtown smacked the left angle of crossbar and upright, whilst a pair of Bridgwater headers after the break drifted just too high.

The final words…

Thanks to Dudley for the fine welcome, although my journey to the venue was appalling…

There is no merit in coming to any conclusions about the two teams, for this was a glorified practice outing, although the players were clearly keen to gain some bragging rights and the two Dudley goals were subsequently celebrated with some gusto…

Billingham strolled elegantly through the opening period for Lye but despite his and Flyer 11’s efforts, goals would not come for the team in blue.

Indeed, it was interesting that the best chances fell to second period replacement Bridgwater, with the aforementioned brace of headers from set-pieces.

The journey home was decent…
