A PEREGRINE FALCON PERCHES IN CROMER... (My new poem about Cromer, Norfolk...)

 A Peregrine Falcon Perches In Cromer…



There was a sudden flurry, an aerial display, 

A weaving around the church towers weathered stone

Pinnacles, achingly high to watch with one’s neck arched from the street.


There was soon a landing upon a ledge and a falcon's array

Of grey and mottled feathers were preened and by a sea breeze blown.  

Yet despite the cacophony below, the bird remained calm and discreet…


There was an occasional glimpse, a quick view

From its intense yellow eyes, even an unsettling stare,

As the predator’s fierce frown surveyed the ground below. 


There was a clear view of its hooked bill, yellow and pale blue,

Clinical and regal, as it nestled in shade from the sun’s glare,

Presiding high over humanity’s relentless flow…
