HOME AGAIN... (My new poem inspired by Atkinson Grimshaw's painting of Whitby, 1877-79...)

 Home Again…

(Inspired by Atkinson Grimshaw’s painting, 1877-79)

Industry, smoke and an insistent sea-mist blur Whitby

Beneath a succulent, moonlit sky, its clouds high

And bewitching, its light reflecting a curious amber

Upon the harbour water’s palette, like a seam of gold,

Behind the charred images of masts, nets and rigging of vessels safely moored…

Emotion, reunion and an idyllic passion blur Whitby

Behind a quayside fence, its gate lying awry

And clutching each other, silhouetted by the curious umber,

The fisherman, home again, finds his love to behold,

Their relief, their tears, their vexations released and no longer fearfully stored…
