A WORLD AWAY... (My poem inspired by a Leigh Lambert painting...)

 A World Away…

(Inspired by Leigh Lambert's picture...)

And the road leads dramatically to the sea

And greyscale life becomes greyscale ocean

And a vast visible sky with gulls wheeling free

And disembarkation from the coach is in motion…

And colour pervades the expectant scene

And the vintage bus hides the huts on the beach

And the day visitors are drawn to the ocean serene

And the ice cream van is parked within easy reach…

And a sailboat and a tanker lurk in the distance

And the esplanade shelter offers refuge from rain

And the undaunted pilgrims march forth with patience

And temporarily forget life’s interminable strain…

And I felt like that too and the annual joyful

And exciting arrival at the seaside was my pleasure

And I felt such relief from a home life often rueful

And subdued and I discovered such memories to treasure…

2nd August 2025…

Loved arriving at the seaside.

I was out of the shackles and strictness of being a quiet and watchful child at home.

Love the bus on Leigh Lambert’s painting.

I have managed to collect a few models of similar buses…
