HYDRANGEA SENTINEL... (My new poem about a very territorial ROBIN in the back-yard...)

 Hydrangea Sentinel…

(A robin in the back yard…)

It guarded. It admonished. It flaunted.

Its belligerence was undaunted.

Its bill opened with vehemence,

Its demeanour one of omnipotence.

It glanced. It looked away. It taunted.

Its superiority was vaunted.

Its irritation revealed its offence,

Its territory threatened, its expression tense.

Then its head bobbed, its patience clearly worn thin

And it suddenly launched itself from the hydrangea,

Its beak and its feet attacking its own reflection in

The utility room window, such a threat and a danger…

1st October 2025…

The robin’s territory was clearly threatened by its own reflection in a back-yard window.

The strange tapping could be heard for much of Tuesday, 30th September 2025 and after investigating, the bird was spotted sitting on the hydrangea.

It made noise, became agitated and then launched itself at the window from a few feet away, using its beak and feet in an attempt to see off the intruder…

Closing a blind finally calmed things down, but the following morning, I allowed light into the room, only for the robin to make a new offensive at the glass…

The room is rather dark now…
