LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY & BOISSON... (My poem about Boisson, Gard Department, France, 2019...)

 Liberty, Equality, Fraternity & Boisson…

Implacably

The gaze descends

Upon the village. The encore

From what was once,

Predictably,

A flock, a relevant congregation…

Imperceptibly

Christ’s presence depends

Upon the villagers’ succour,

About their current whims,

Intractably

A flock, a diffident congregation…

Changing faces,

Parking places,

Fumes and traces

Of modernisation

And cats cowering astray.

Changing traditions,

Improving conditions,

Rules and impositions,

By fraternisation

And cats roving astray.

Changing ideals,

Church bell’s peals,

Lacking communication

And cats scurrying astray…

Equality.

His vision descends

Upon the scene, alors,

Upon what is now,

Inconsolably

A fraternity, a liberated congregation…

And still the cats hurry to remain astray…

Pete Ray…

Boisson, Gard Department, France, September 2019…

Despite all the changes made through the years, the statue of Christ above the church in Boisson remains as the overseer, seemingly visible from all parts of the village…
