WICKED LADY? (My poem about Katherine Ferrers, born 1634...)

 Wicked Lady?

Pearls and rouge decorate the skin.

Slight, slim in the extreme.

Her blue silk gown’s lustre

Slips from childlike shoulder.

Bright, keen in expression.

Chestnut eyes gleam.

Lips pert, like someone older,

Generate an impish impression…

Pearls and rouge violate her skin.

Contrite, clear in the frame.

Her tight, umber ringlets cluster,

Slipping from sparse fringe.

Erudite, steadfast in determination,

Mahogany eyes blame.

Lips taut, with scarlet tinge,

Inculcate a skittish protestation...

Katherine Ferrers…

Born in 1634...

Her portrait hangs at Valence House Museum, Dagenham, Essex…

I was interested in her expression.

Was this The Wicked Lady, the highwaywoman?

She has been lauded in Katherine Clements’ fine novel ‘The Silvered Heart’...

Worth a read, I reckon...
