FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round:
Wellington Amateurs v Racing Club Warwick:
A Preview…
Wellington currently lie 13th in the West Midlands Regional League Division 1, having played 5 league matches, winning 2 and losing 3.
Their goal difference is +3 however, due to rapping in five goals in both their first and fifth matches. A 5-1 victory over Bustlehome was followed by three defeats: 2-1 at Worcester Raiders, 0-1 at home to Darlaston (1874) and 1-0 at Wyrley, before a 5-3 win, getting back from 1-3 down v Willenhall last Saturday steadied the ship.
The club’s owner, Dave Gregory sadly died last Friday and so this FA Vase tie will be dedicated to his memory. He had been at the club since 1962, being there when it moved to its current site, School Grove, now called the Fortis Stadium.
The overall leading goalscorer this term is Tom Worthington with two strikes.
Racing Club Warwick, from Division 1 of the Midland League, have done rather well during this season, despite only playing 5 league matches, winning 3, drawing 1 and losing their first outing at Lichfield by 4-3.
The Racers’ cup exploits have seen them reach the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, beating Malvern Town on the road 1-2, then shocking Coleshill Town 4-3, before losing 2-1 at Southern League Central outfit Coalville Town last Saturday. Their first FA Vase match ended in a 10-0 drubbing of Pegasus, during which Marc Passey scored a hat-trick…
Warwick’s leading overall goalscorers are Trea Bertie and Ben Mackey, both with 5.
