GNP SPORTS' MANAGER COMMENTS ON HIS TEAM'S 4-3 WIN v BOLDMERE FALCONS...

A win but the concession of 3 goals. I guess that doesn’t please you...

"It’s the second time this season we have conceded 3 goals at home, we are addressing it and it’s being worked on. The frustrating part of it yesterday was we managed to control the game for 70 minutes but a crazy 5 minutes before the half and 15 minutes after it, saw us concede 3. The Fairfield game was similar- a crazy passage of 25 mins and we conceded further goals. I don’t like restricting players to certain jobs, I like to give them their freedom but maybe for the next few games it’s what’s needed; we will see!"

Have your new players made an impact? If so, can you explain how?

"Good solid debut for Rocky, who scored on his debut; he’s a honest player and will always work hard. If I’m being critical. he could have had a debut hat-trick but the more he plays and gets to know the players around him, the more clinical he will be. It was a good goal for his opener!

Cosgrove played the last 30 minutes or so in what was a frantic and hectic game, so it's hard to judge his performance but he kept the ball well and added some organisation when he came on."

A few words about the attacking side of GNP’s performance?

"If we are to be successful we need to be more ruthless in front of goal; we already average 3 goals a game but that needs to go up to 4. It’s great that all 5 strikers have opened up their accounts but others neeed to chip in, just like the forward and midfield units need to do more to support the defenders and goalkeeper. Without the ball we are not where we need to be but we will keep working until we get it right at both ends of the pitch!"

‘Feisty’ was a word mentioned about the match. Can you expand on that?

"Just two clubs both wanting the win and a few handbags. What’s important is that we have faced Boldmere on 4 occasions now and not lost, so I’m sure the next game will be full of passion!"

Any words about your injury situation?

"We still have 9 players out injured and hoping we get 3 back just before October."

The GNP M.O.M?

"I thought Beach had another good game and he’s had to be patient; the last time I checked he had played the least amount of minutes out of all of the outfield players but he’s certainly taking his moment.

Scott, the big man between the sticks made some crucial and elegant saves for the Sky Sports cameras but for me yesterday, Dale saved the day! I felt it was important to rotate the squad with 5 games in 14 days and it was Dale's turn to sit out but instead of sulking or feeling sorry for himself, he came on and made an instant impact. Two good goals and a spot-on attitude.

If we are to be as successful as I want us to be in 6 competitions we are involved in, players are sometimes going to be have to patient, support their team-mates and put the team before themselves."

Up next?

"We have an important game v Woodlands on Wednesday night; it’s always special under lights and there should be a decent little crowd with no other Coventry team playing in midweek.

Woodlands are a local Bedworth side and hopefully we can get a positive result. We need to learn from the mistakes we are making but also continue with the good aspects of our game; one thing that can’t be questioned with this bunch of lads, is the winning culture we have."

Yours in football...

Shamir Alam, manager, GNP Sports...
