'TEETERING': A NEW POEM ABOUT THE OCTOBER IMAGE FROM KIRSTY ELSON'S 2018 CALENDAR...

Teetering:
The October Image From Kirsty Elson’s 2018 Calendar…

Dream cottage teeters
Nightmarishly
Close to headland’s edge-
Insecure, precarious;
Vexed gull teeters
Skittishly
Upon sandstone cliff ledge-
Unsure, ravenous…

Nut brown boats teeter
Helplessly
Aground the coarse tideline-
Vulnerable, adventurous;
Tarred umber ropes teeter
Perilously
‘Tween rusted posts benign-
Malleable, pugnacious…

Breeze-blown washing teeters
Warily
From corners pegged tight-
Restrained, fractious;
Local fishing lifestyle teeters
Unerringly
Towards inexorable extinction-
Arraigned, contentious…

Kirsty Elson’s October artwork really made me think about the dying out of local fishing in some parts of Cornwall and Devon.

No idea why…
