CHAIR AND PZ HARBOUR: A POEM AND GEMMA PEARCE'S PAINTING...

Chair And PZ Harbour...
(from Gemma Pearce’s painting…)

The harbour sentinel, like a stern traffic cop
Directs a determined pleasure craft
Along its charted channel
Towards the haven of Penzance;
And sailing boats fuss around
St Michael’s Mount, its elegance
Peeking above an undulating coastline, east of Marazion
And hovering over a bleached aqua ocean,
Yet proud in its stance,
Relentless in its permanence and resilience...

And the limes of a chair-back and an isolated cup
Stare up at Auricula flowers, pink and maroon
Yet the purity of the whites attracts the viewer’s gaze
Like the sprinkling of snow ‘neath a winter moon...
