'DRAWN IN...': THE NEW POEM ABOUT NEWLYN AND GEMMA PEARCE'S PAINTING...

Drawn In…
(from Gemma Pearce’s Painting ‘Newlyn Lighthouse and Sea Bass’)

Drawn into the seascape through an open window,
Past breeze shifted net curtains, one drifts
Towards a restless, pale turquoise ocean, simmering
Beneath a grim, worrying slate grey sky;
The charcoal Mount rises like a sinister evil beast from the sea,
Dwarfing a fishing vessel, glimmering
And sneaking by, making for Newlyn’s crowded quay,
As the sea bass lies staring upon a platter, shimmering…

Drawn in, towards the white and red of the lighthouse,
Abutting low, painted huts upon a grim harbour wall,
For its very presence marks an invitation,
A lure into Newlyn’s working haven,
But the sea bass lies upon a platter with no salvation…

Newlyn, as depicted by Gemma Pearce…

My favourite old harbour wall is surely tucked below the window ledge…

St Michael’s Mount looks evil, the sea is a pale turquoise and the sky typically rain-heavy.

The gaze seems attracted out of the window and onto the boats and the lighthouse…

We likes this…
