FA VASE ROUND 4: PREVIEW OF THE WILLAND ROVERS v HAMWORTHY UNITED TIE...

FA Vase Round 4:
Willand Rovers v Hamworthy United:
Match Preview…

This match promises to be quite a battle between the leaders of the Toolstation Western League, Willand Rovers and the Sydenham’s Wessex league outfit, Hamworthy United, currently lying 8th in their division.

The two teams are coming off very different results from last Saturday, when Rovers won 0-4 at Hallen, their goals being scored by Craig Duff, Josh Searle, Luke Mortimore and Aidan Moyle, whereas United were beaten 0-3 on their own patch by Portland.

Willand have won 16 of 20 league games this term with only 1 loss, amassing a goal difference of +44 and a points total of 51. Their only loss was a 3-1 defeat at second placed Westbury, who have a game in hand over Rovers but should that be won, Willand’s goal difference should still be good enough to keep them top. Leading overall goalscorers for Rovers are currently Luke Mortimore with 22 and Josh Searle, who has 13.
LUKE MORTIMORE AT BRADFORD TOWN LAST SEASON...

Hamworthy have won 9 and lost 8 of their 18 league matches, drawing just once. Their goal difference is +6 and they have bagged 28 points. Leading goalscorer for United is Daniel Cann with 18, followed by Nathan Walker with 13.
DANNY CANN...

The two teams’ respective roads to this round of the FA Vase have been quite different, for Hamworthy have played six matches thus far, whilst Willand have played just three.
THE PINK PANTHER, MIKE SEARLE...

First time out, Willand won 1-4 at Odd Down, their goals being scored by Angus Wilson (2), Brad Ausden and Luke Mortimore. A late 2-1 victory over Tavistock, goals curtesy of Dean Stamp and Ryan Guppy was followed by a 3-0 win against Bodmin Town, during which Mortimore netted a brace and Brett Worbey added the other goal.
JOSH SEARLE...

Hamworthy began their journey with a 5-0 victory over Amesbury Town, the goals being nabbed by Daniel Cann (3), Sam Bayston and Ed Hodge. Next up were Fawley AFC, who were beaten 3-1, the goals netted by Bayston, Cann and River Smith.
NATHAN WALKER...

A 1-2 victory at Shaftesbury came courtesy of strikes by Sean Wright and Cann but extra-time was needed to see off Falmouth Town 3-1, as Cann netted twice and Walker fired the other.

A 1-1 draw at Hamble Club, after overtime (Oli Davies scoring) was followed up with a 4-1 replay win. Cann, Walker, Davies and an own goal did the damage to humble Hamble…

The tie is so important to these two teams and coverage will be posted on this blog from Sunday, including video clips, match report and images…
