MOUSEHOLE: A NEW POEM...

Mousehole: The Whale, The Serpent, The Three Ships & The Stargazy Pie…

The whale remained,
As did the serpent,
Both wallowing in a restless sour green sea;
The three ships strained,
All dependent
Upon each other to a certain degree;
The stargazy pie, restrained
Against harbour wall, was resplendent,
Below the Ship Inn’s legendary sanctuary...

But at the stroke of five o’clock
As natural light faded and fine rain fell amok,
The whale, the serpent, the three ships and the stargazy pie
Became engulfed in the gloom, helpless and awry;
No Christmas bulbs would bring them to life, as in wait they lay
To be dismantled, stored and no longer to illuminate Mount’s Bay...

Not yet removed from the harbour, some of Mousehole’s seasonal features didn’t light up of course at 5pm, as they would have done during the Christmas period…

Sad…
