ASHBY IVANHOE KNIGHTS v BARLESTONE ST GILES: MATCH PREVIEW...

The Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division began its 2019-20 season on Saturday and these two teams experienced differing fortunes.

Hosts Ashby Ivanhoe Knights had been leading at Ellistown by 0-2 at the interval, through goals by Sam Beck and Jack Hoult but a couple of players being exiled to the 'sin bin' in the second period might just have contributed to Ellistown fighting back to draw 2-2.

Last season, the Knights finished as runners-up in Division 1, amassing 18 wins from 24 matches and a total of 58 points. Josh Lawrence led all scorers with 9 overall goals to his name.

Visitors Barlestone though managed a narrow 1-0 home victory on Saturday against Cottesmore AFC, with Craig Leonard's second period strike proving the difference between the teams.

Last season the Saints finished 5th in the Premier Division, winning 15 of 30 matches, their leading scorer being George Hickling with 18 goals overall.
