STONEHOUSE TOWN v HEREFORD LADS CLUB: THE MATCH PREVIEW...

Stonehouse Town v Hereford Lads Club: Game Preview...

This will be a first visit to the Magpies Stadium in Stonehouse for

The home club was promoted last term from the Gloucestershire County League into the Hellenic League Division 1 West, after finishing 3rd.

This season, a 3-1 loss at Clanfield 85, in which Nathan Buckland scored Town's goal, was followed by a thumping 5-0 home win against Hereford Pegasus, who had a player dismissed. Goalscorers were substitute Joseph Martin with a hat-trick, also Tim Williams and Alex Kibble.

A 3-5 defeat at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup saw goals by Kibble, Adam Philp and Chris Earle fail to help the Magpies advance in the competition.

The team currently sits 7th in the league table with 3 points and a goal difference of +3.

Hereford Lads Club have transferred from the West Midland Regional League Premier Division this term and began their campaign with a draw, then a win. They sit 3rd in the league with a goals ratio of +2, whereas only Malvern Town of those teams which have played two games, have won both...

A thrilling 4-4 draw at Shortwood, wherein Adam Hockey netted a brace, whilst James Hancocks and Tom Bendall added the other two, was followed by a 1-3 win on the road at Cheltenham Saracens, where Bendall scored twice and Liam Jones was also on target.

A fine 0-5 win at Clanfield 85 in their Bluefin tie came courtesy of goals by James Fennessey and braces for Bendall and Hancocks.

This game will be the first time I have seen Stonehouse play but I did see the Hereford Lads in 2016-17 when they pulled back from a three goal deficit to draw 3-3 at Worcester Raiders.

Screenshots of their goals from that match are shown below: a header by Jordan Moon and two close range strikes by Kalum Wildig.

WILDIG REGAINS PARITY AT 3-3...

That afternoon was spoilt by some unpleasantness between both spectators and some occupants of the two dugouts. My match report at the time mentioned:

"The spectators, including a good number of children, also witnessed a near brawl, the slinging of a flare and a part-used booze-can onto the Raiders’ technical rectangle, plus a storm of swearing abuse and threatening behaviour. A few spectators even ran onto the pitch before the start of the second period for a quick kickabout which amused the visiting substitutes at least, as their wild challenges and one shocking finish way over the crossbar left no doubt that the culprits’ pre-match beverages hadn’t been Bovril…"
