AFC BINLEY 6-2 CHRIST THE KING RESERVES: THE REPORT BY BINLEY'S MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES...

"Happy New Year to you all!

AFC Binley got the game underway but it was CTK Reserves who started the better of the two teams.

CTK were awarded a throw-in which was taken by their number 7 but we didn't deal with it and the number 9 finished from inside the penalty-area: 0-1

CTK then doubled their lead in identical fashion, when the number 7 took a throw-in again and again the number 9 scored: 0-2

Moments later, CTK almost scored again when the number 7 took a corner but the number 4 headed just wide.

Soon we had our first chance of the game, after Blake Kassar set up Tyler Morgan but he shot wide.

Finally, just past the mid-point of the half we reduced the deficit when Melusi Mazwi and Tyler Morgan combined for Blake Kassar to score: 1-2

Blake Kassar almost scored again immediately but CTK's number 11 cleared the ball off his goal-line.

Tyler Morgan and Paul Govier had shots wide, before in the 45th minute Andy Godfrey cleared off our goal-line from a CTK corner."

Half-time: AFC Binley 1-2 CTK Res...

"CTK got the 2nd period underway but this time we started the half better.

Mtshuza Ncube passed to Tyler Morgan, who set up Blake Kassar to score: 2-2

Soon afterwards the CTK number 11 forced a good save from Ryan Oldham.

Finally we went ahead in the game when Melusi Mazwi set up Blake Kassar to score and complete his hat-trick: 3-2.

20 minutes from the end Paul Govier passed to Steven Young, who finished well and we led 4-2.

A few minutes later, CTK had a free-kick which was very well saved by Ryan Oldham.

With 10 minutes remaining, Paul Govier set up Tyler Morgan to score from close range: 5-2.

After Mtshuza Ncube was replaced by Simon Lightowler,
Tyler Morgan set up Paul Govier, who scored, also from close range: 6-2."

Full-time: AFC Binley 6-2 Christ The King Res.

In Summing Up This Game:

"After going 0-2 down in the first 10 minutes it's never a great way to start any game but the lads showed a lot of character and patience to get themselves through this drama.

We took our chances which came at important moments of the game today and that helped us against a CTK side that caused us many problems and never gave up.

Hopefully the weather will now settle down and we can start playing regular games and maintain this sort of form and then improve again.

I am 'over the moon' that we have started the New Year with a victory and I would personally like to thank all at CTK for helping this game to go ahead.

Best of luck to CTK for the remainder of the season..."

Edwin Greaves,
AFC Binley Manager...
