ST AGNES AFC v PENRYN ATHLETIC: THE PREVIEW...

St Agnes AFC v Penryn Athletic, Saturday 20th January:

The Mowdog’s Preview…

This will be my first visit to Enys Park, where league leaders Penryn will be paying a visit.

St Agnes have won 5 of their 15 games thus far, drawing 2 and losing 8. Having scored just 19 times, their goal difference is currently -16 and they lie in 10th position of 15 clubs in the St Piran League West division, with 17 points.

The leading scorer is Dan O’Toole with 5 goals and the most recent result was a 2-0 home win against bottom of the league table Perranwell, with the goals coming from Logan Taylor and Alex Wilson.

Visitors Penryn have a fine record so far, having won 13 of their 16 matches, drawing 2 and losing just 1, which was a surprise 1-2 victory on the road for Perranporth in October. Perranporth currently lie 4th in the division, with 3 games in hand over Athletic.

The team has scored 53 goals and conceded only 16, an average of just one goal against per match, which gives them a goals ratio of +37 and a points haul of 41. Perranporth would be 4 points shy of that total should they win those 3 spare contests.

Leading scorers are Ryan Reeve and Jackson Rapsey, both with 11 and the most recent game was a 4-0 home win v Wendron United Reserves, in which Reggie and Russell May both scored, along with Reeve and Lewis Pellow.

From Sunday, there will be video highlights, a full match report and images from the match  HERE  but it’s likely that the video action will need to be uploaded at the Cornish Arms, St Merryn on Sunday evening whilst eating a meal there, as the wi-fi at the Merrymoor, Mawgan Porth frustrates the hell out of me…

I hope that the players and staff from both clubs enjoy the coverage, even Mark Rapsey, who still hasn’t answered the questions I posed to him about his career, which were supposed to contribute towards a special article about the old chap who has scored a goal or two in Kernow, I believe…

Let’s hope the St Agnes v Penryn encounter is one to remember…

Pete Ray,

‘The Mowdog’…
