PADSTOW GALE, 14TH JANUARY 2020: A NEW POEM...

Padstow Gale, 14th January 2020…

Storm’s gale howled through
Tightly moored boats, safe
Inside the gated harbour
And it rattled at ropes
And clinked at masts,
Stretching flags taut,
As if yanked by combatants in a tug o’war…

Yet despite the whining and the moaning
And the fishing vessels’ groaning,
The frenzied gale became fraught,
For the safe haven sought
To hold aggrieved keels fast,
Until the wild winds would ease at last…

Awful winds and heavy showers greeted me in Padstow, following a tough journey south on the previous day.

Yet the harbour caressed the vessels inside, despite the roars, the clanking, the hissing and the creaking…

THE HARBOUR ON A BETTER DAY!
