Harsh Grass

Bristles provide the marram grass,
Like on dunes, harsh and spiky in sand;
Rusted nails a flagpole and chimneys provide,
Proud on the roof of the small boathouse they stand…
Hunched, huddled and hindered, alas,
The building, assaulted by the sea on land,
Cowers, its vulnerability to hide
And to brush off the grip of storm’s harrowing hand…
