MAROONED HIGH & DRY IN NEWLYN HARBOUR... (From Lizzie Black's painting...)

 Marooned High & Dry In Newlyn Harbour…

(from Lizzie Black’s painting of Newlyn Harbour…)

A vessel lies high and dry,

Ramped, beached and curiously impeached

Upon a slipway’s dry dock;

The boat tarries high and dry,

Cramped, isolated and seriously incapacitated

Like a stooge for trawlers to mock…

The hulk rests high and dry,

Hampered, exposed and silently deposed,

Incongruous in its captivity;

The tub juts high and dry,

Pampered, tainted and patiently repainted,

Yet denied its natural proclivity…

The bulk lurks high and dry,

Its innards vexed and awry;

An ark? A prophesied flood imminent?

A fish out of water, quietly ruminant?

I am certain I took a picture, which has the very same vessel on it, in Newlyn last March (2020) and it appears to be the Padstow registered PW 24, ‘Betty Louise’…

The boat being high and dry, I thought of Noah’s Ark…

And why not?
