Snowdrops & No Snow Drops
(from Gill Jansen’s artwork…)
Above the harbour stars hang,
Like in midwinter when snow drops.
Hazy moon hovers, casting its wan glow
Upon Pendennis Castle’s stern façade
And across quayside frontages, blushed…
Within the haven silence hangs,
A cold winter’s reverence, perhaps.
Lone vessel wavers, listing in the navy glow
Of Falmouth’s sinister tide, marred
By a regiment of white shivers, hushed…
Inside a simple flower vase hangs
A clutch of bowing snow drops.
Sweet heads lowered like lamps aglow
Watching evening’s vista, starred:
A simplicity, a sanctity, its piety not rushed…
