STONEHAVEN: TRANQUIL... (FROM A PAINTING BY GAIL LEVACK...)

 Stonehaven: Tranquil…

(from a painting by Gail Levack…)

The feel is tranquility,

Like the pallid sea secretly hides

Its gentle surge with alluring placidity,

But with predatory threat it lurks and glides…

The appeal is longevity,

Like the steely ocean’s perpetual tide,

For its artful urge with contrived fatality

Could thrust the harbour’s idyll aside…

The feel is sanctity,

 Such peace and the Auld Toon’s pride;

Its streets are devoid of human activity,

Where history and modernity collide…

The appeal is simplicity,

Myriad rooftops huddling side by side,

As the church spire peeps in perpetuity,

Protecting the haven’s waterside…

Never been to Stonehaven, nor any other part of Scotland but the painting was so tranquil…

Reminded me of the trend in making models of small cottages in harbours, often sold in craft shops near the coast.

This, though, was real…
