Troubled & Untroubled By The Wind…
And stealthily
A badger stretched its neck
In a high state of alert,
Poised upon the rim
Of its sett’s cunningly deep hole…
And warily
It lurked with harsh claws
Gripping hardened dirt,
Sun-baked upon the rim,
Its reticence quizzically droll…
Its cautiousness
Seemed incongruous
In the frivolous,
Invasive breeze. And inauspicious…
Yet freely,
A cub searched the scrub
With a fussy foraging scuffle,
Provoked by the dispersed
And instant sustenance…
Yet openly
The cub, despite the wind,
Continued its fidgeting ruffle
Amongst a thicket, immersed
In its own ambivalence…
Thus perseverance,
An overt flagrance
And scavenging persistence
Overcame its abstinence…

A Saturday evening.
The wind was causing an adult badger to be very wary of scents, whilst a cub simply got on with feeding.
Such a contrast…
