WINTER DAY... My new poem inspired by Ksenya Istomina's poem of the same name...

 Winter Day…

(Inspired by Ksenya Istomina’s painting of the same name…)

One conifer displays its colour, upright and proud,

A striking dull green against the purest of snow,

Whilst other trees languish like spectres, ghostly and coy,

Flailing and shaking off their powdery shroud.

Folks linger unhurried, relaxed faces surely aglow,

As a child toboggans alone with unmitigated joy…

12th January 2024…

Days like the one in Ksenya Istomina’s evocative painting seem long gone here in the Midlands of England but I recall tobogganing on the slopes of Aston Park, near Aston Hall in Birmingham when I was around 13 years of age, during a dinner break.

All was well until one boy broke an arm and all of us were banned from using the snow again…
