ABANDONMENT... (My new poem about Temple Balsall's badgers...)

 Abandonment…

It was as though a small nomadic family had abandoned

The copse. Detritus and spoil and a scattering of empty

Bottles and newly grown weeds and nettles littered

The parched earth and lifeless clearing in the shady wood.

It was as though a small clan of badgers had abandoned

The setts. Dry earth spoil and a spattering of empty

Holes gaped amongst stones and bricks which littered
The baked ground and mounds in the warm, silent wood.

It was as though one badger tarried and had not forsaken

The stage. Faltering from underground, it searched

For a few morsels of food but once that was foraged for and taken,

The nervous creature retreated and into an untidy depression  lurched…

26th June 2025…

Temple Balsall, where some setts have seemingly become unused recently.

Just two badgers have appeared from an area well away from the main entrance holes recently, where the carcass of a dead badger continues to decay…

Abandonment comes to mind…
