MOUNT'S BAY PEACE... (My new poem about Mousehole, Cornwall...)

 Mount's Bay Peace…

The plain granite wall, a tide-breaker, a walkway

Leads on until awkward rocks form a wild cul-de-sac

And like a road blocked by boulders tumbled awry,

The route into Newlyn is scuppered and one has to turn back…

A small, flat, stone-built landing, with steps descending

To the stony, seaweed coated, rock-strewn beach

Is a place of peace, a generally quiet spot for pondering,

Which draws me back time and again, some kind of tranquility to reach…

Morning high tides though have currently denied me the opportunity

Of watching oystercatchers, little egrets and curlews,

Leaving only an occasional cormorant to enjoy, more’s the pity

And Newlyn’s fishing vessels and Mount’s Bay’s panoramic views…

17th June 2025…

Part of a sea-wall below the main road into Mousehole from Newlyn, called Cliff Road.

I walk along it at least once a day whilst on holiday in Mousehole.

ROCK PIPITS ABOUND NEAR THE WALL THOUGH...

When the tide is out, birds are seen regularly amongst the revealed rocks but the current tide times have prevented any sightings during the mornings…
