FLITTING, PREENING, DOZING... (My new poem about a young long tailed tit at Upton Warren, 4th June 2025...)

 Flitting, Preening, Dozing…

There was a good deal of flitting and elusive

Shuffling through rustling leaves upon branches, thin

And wavering, as long tailed tits fidgeted and shifted,

Typically restless and chatty in a fussy, pleasant din…

There was a single chick, perched but visible,

Preening its fluffed up feathers, seemingly oblivious

To my non invasive presence and it toiled alone,

Its industry cute and precious, if rather copious…

There was a dark bill evident and a black eye,

Within an elliptical ring of a startling scarlet hue,

Which, when the tit closed its eyes as if dozing,

Resembled inverted red lips upon a human face askew…
