Snow On The Hills…
(Inspired by Michelle Underwood’s artwork…)
The pens, designed perhaps for sheep are now ink filled
And daubs of dull white paint in the field are smothered
By snow’s blatant presence, blanking the landscape
To a pallid and bleak wilderness, its insistent beauty undeniable…
The trees, incongruous by their presence, isolated and
vulnerable,
Wave haplessly, as hedges wrestle and hills fade and gape.
A filthy, laden cloud unleashes another deluge, unbothered
And lavishly spreads its glorious gift, deep, stifling and chilled…
Yet the red roof of a small dwelling draws the gaze
Through the exposed and freezing, snowbound haze;
Discrepant, a precious retreat, a haven, a promise,
An anomaly of colour within the sepia of a harsh storm’s abyss…

12th January 2026…
Another fascinating rendering of a snowstorm in a hilly landscape.
Such a clever scene…
