Welcome Home…
(Inspired by Ann Cowan’s painting…)
A random flag buoy lists like a mast upon a raunchy sea,
As it waves a salutary welcome home to the fishing vessel
Moored against a granite wall, which hoards yarns it could relate.
And drying stacked pots, emptied of crustaceans, lie idle upon the quay…
The boat oozes nostalgia, with reflections of storms wild and angry,
Of heavily laden baskets to lift, haul and wrestle
Aboard, or of crew members lost to a fisherman’s fate.
And it lingers for the next high tide upon which to be set free…
